For this song I worked with Justin and Hugo, however it was mostly myself and Justin that worked on this song. Our assignment this week was to make a song in a genre we have never worked in before; after some discussion we realised neither of us had ever worked with straightforward pop so decided upon this genre. This genre usually features a simple verse chorus structure, repeated choruses, rhythms and tempos which can easily be danced to and simple vocals usually with a sweet sound. This genre is quite uncomplicated most of the time as it is made for a large audience so wants to include nothing too experimental or divisive. We decided to use the Taylor Swift song ‘Is It Over Now’ as a reference track; whilst in class myself and Justin made a very basic track, deciding on the sounds to use and how the structure of the track should operate. With the barebones laid out Justin went and produced the track; it does cut off right in the middle of what should be the chorus which is my main complaint with this track. Collaborating with others can sometimes be hard, especially under time constraints and it was hard to communicate about this. To be honest I do not really like the beat but when working with others sometimes this happens and as a lyricist and singer you just have to work with what you have been given. I did not have enough time to produce a different beat so worked with this and wrote some lyrics that would befit a pop song, featuring themes of love and heartbreak as many pop songs do. As the beat is quite short I did not have enough space for a repetitive chorus which I regret, these lyrics are also not my best. Singing these lyrics proved easy enough, pop singing is quite easy though I’m not entirely sure my voice is suited to it. Overall I do think this track fits into the genre we chose and I had a learning experience writing and singing in a pop style, but I don’t really like it and do think it could have been better.
