Next Life

This week I worked with Ethan and Caleb, to be completely honest I was not really involved in the production of the song. Ethan and Caleb came up with the track and added Caleb’s vocal to it, by the time I received the song it sounded complete, even having a very good mix on it. Therefore I had to decide what to add myself, I piggybacked off of Caleb’s lyrics to ensure that my vocal would sit well with his. The lyrical content is simple, a philosophical cry to meet your lover in another life; I did not add much to the lyrics as my part is quite short. This song is not really my style and as I did not have much communication with the others about it I’m afraid I did not do much to add to it. I did my best with the vocals but as this is not my usual style I did have to get out of my comfort zone and experiment. I think the vocal turned out okay though it could definitely be better, it has been a while since I have sung instead of rapped and I usually sing in a more pop punk style so getting my voice to fit the airy sound of this track was a little hard. I put a rudimentary mix on my part but as I only had a wav of the track I could not properly mix my vocal so it doesn’t sit completely right in the song. This track does not have a large focus on rhythm and groove also, and as this was essentially the assignment this week I do think it is a missed opportunity; the song focuses more on the harmony. This week’s song is not my favourite and definitely not the best showcase of my skills but I tried my best with it.
