Let Me In New York

This week I worked with Flynn and Justin, however it was really only Flynn I communicated with and worked with. Flynn had already made a track which he thought could benefit from some female vocals, after hearing it I agreed to collaborate on this song. It is a pop track but very noisy and fast paced, making clever use of synths. The beat was inspired by the Brat album by Charli XCX so the vocals are also very similar to what she did there, the fasts pace and a large focus on noisy synths. It also uses what we have learned about harmony in class in an interesting way. Once we got into the studio Flynn directed me, telling me how to perform and what kind of energy he wanted, after hearing the lyrics he had written I decided to tweak them slightly as I felt they did not really fit the female perspective that well. This was not a whole revision of the lyrics, I just changed a word here and there to give it more impact. The vocals needed to sound vaguely robotic so this was a new experience for me. This was a very collaborative process and I feel we worked together well. I performed my part first with Flynn giving me advice between takes on how to make it better; then Flynn performed his part with me doing the same. It was useful to have someone listen to my vocals and tell me what I could change to make it better and I would like to employ this more in my personal recording process. After we both got takes we were happy with Flynn mixed the vocals; I really like how this track came out, creating a sort of soundscape, I do praise Flynn’s sound design. My only complaint is I did not get to do much, mostly acting as a session musician.
